New Clothes, New Residents

I crocheted a couple of new dresses for the ladies. Remember I talked about working on a blue-silver evening gown two posts ago? Well, I finally completed it, along with a green sheath-type short dress. Gina and Katherine were kind enough to take a few minutes away from their busy families to model them.

Here's a closer view.

Since my birthday was last week, I couldn't resist getting myself a couple of birthday presents. I wanted some mature-looking dolls to be moms to some of my teenagers and pre-teens.  I found the Dynasty dolls, Alexis and Krystal, on Amazon.

Here they are still in their boxes.

Here they are out of their boxes but still attached to their Mattel-provided backdrops.

Alexis

Krystal

These dolls are so drop-dead gorgeous that they presented me with a dilemma. Do I re-body them and give them lives in Moreville, or do I put them back in their boxes where they'll be safe from dust and stick them on a shelf away from sunlight to just look at?  If I give them articulated fashionista bodies, chances are the gowns won't fit since they're sized for the model muse body. And a Moreville lifestyle requires movement and poseability.  Not sure what I'm going to do. What do you all think?  :-)

  1. OMG! Those Dynasty dolls are completely awesome. They're glamorous and gorgeous. They're just not Alexis and Krystal without those gowns. They could make an appearance in Moreville every now and then with champagne glasses in their hands (of course). They could make snooty, mean comments and call everyone names and get into the occasional catfight. Or you could do a spin off of the Absolutely Fabulous tv show. LOL. That would be a riot. You're very lucky to have these dolls. Someday I might get them.

    1. Hello Robotica, and welcome to my blog! These dolls are just gorgeous, which explains my little dilemma. LOL. You've got some great ideas there, especially the snooty comments and cat fights. I'm not familiar with the TV show though. I'm extremely happy to have them! :-)

  2. Love your new dresses! That emerald green is super cute. I'm so proud of you and how quickly you seem to have mastered the fine art of crocheting. Love your two new dolls. To solve your dilemma you could just buy two more to keep in boxes, and then rebody these two. lol.

    1. Thanks Vanessa! It means so much that you're proud of me for the crocheting. More than you know...As for the dolls, ROFL, not in the budget. Although, I could get another Alexis doll, but Krystal is not doable right now. She cost 3 times more than Alexis did. So I'm thinking of re-bodying Alexis and save Krystal for another time. :-)

  3. My opinion, (for what it's worth) dolls are to be played with unless they are for an investment and what fun is that???? You love the dolls, they will be great characters in your stories so go for it. Like Vanessa said, if you need to have them in boxes to gather dust, buy 2 more! Oh and besides that.. you have "donors" waiting for their chances to be in your stories!
Keep up the good work on the crochet!! I'm sure I have yarn in my stash that you can raid anytime you'd like! : - )

    1. Thanks Marianne! I'm thinking of getting another Alexis, re-bodying her and saving Krystal for another time since she's more expensive. I agree that dolls are more fun when they're played with, but some are just so beautiful, you hate to alter them. I plan on shopping in your yarn stash soon! LOL :-)

Congratulations on get Alexis and Krystal!!! Dynasty was my show back in the day! Please allow them to he apart of your stories. Maybe they could remain with their proper bodies unless they become more permanent characters. Looking toward to seeing them. ; ).

    1. Hi Georgia Girl!
Glad you like the dresses! Crocheting Barbie clothes can be a real challenge since everything is on a small scale. I like your idea about maybe using Alexis and Krystal in their original bodies for now. Although, I'll probably get another Alexis to re-body since she was less expensive than Krystal. Perhaps I can get another Krystal in the future. Either way, they will appear in my stories. :-)

  5. First, congrats on finding and having these lovely dolls. The face paint makes the dolls look strongly like the actresses.

Second, is there a big difference between the model muse bodies and the fashionista bodies?

Last - good luck, whichever you choose ;-)

    1. Hi D7ana!
Thanks! These dolls are simply beautiful. There is a difference between the model muse and fashionista bodies. The fashionistas have fuller hips and breasts, so the model muse fashions may or may not fit them. It depends on how those clothes are cut and designed. I'm leaning toward re-bodying at least one of them. :-)

  6. The dresses are gorgeous! You've really found your talent there, dear one!...Play with the dolls...that's what they're for. Although Krystal's hair is, well...in need of an up date..LOL. If you don't want to re-body them..leave them as is and have them standing around and making snarky comments...you'll figure out a way..

    1. Thanks sis! Glad you like the dresses. I actually enjoy crocheting for humans as well. LOL. I agree that Krystal's hair is a bit outdated. I have to wash all the sticky stuff out of it and see how it falls. I may trim her "wings" back a little. :-)

  7. Aw, too bad! I saw these two dolls at the Italian Doll Convention, if I knew it, I would buy them for you :-(

To solve your dilemma, keep them on their MM bodies and introduce them in sorta of scenes that don't requires many movement (with the right light and shoot even a MM can be realistic and expressive), or think to buy for them two pivotal bodies, so they can wear their gowns and once you put them aside, you can pose them in their original stiffy MM pose

    1. How sweet of you Sergio, thank you! Although shipping costs between Italy and the US are probably expensive. I'm thinking of maybe re-bodying Alexis and keeping Krystal in her original body. I like your idea of creating scenes where there wouldn't be a lot of movement for either of the dolls. We'll see what happens. How was the convention? :-)

I'm still very new to crochet, but eventually I'd like to design my own Barbie clothes. There aren't too many free patterns available for doll clothes. :-)

    1. Hello Shasarignis and welcome to my blog! Yes, those Dynasty dolls are gorgeous. I'm thinking of re-bodying one and leaving the other one alone for now. I just can't decide which one! LOL :-)
