New Projects

I bet you all thought I'd dropped off the face of the planet.  Believe me, I haven't.  LOL Instead I picked up a new hobby - like I had time for it!  As you all know, my roommate/sister Marianne is a knitter.  And being a knitter means she has quite a large stash of yarn; like me with my doll stash.  Since I have absolutely NO patience for knitting, I decided to try my hand at crocheting.  Guess what?  I LOVE it!  Only one hook to deal with and lots of loop-de-loops to create many wonderful designs.  Of course, the Moreville residents are benefiting from this new hobby of mine in the way of clothes and household items.

This blanket/bedspread is the first thing I crocheted.  Marianne kindly provided the yarn.  Thanks Marianne!

Here's another look.  As you can see, it's quite large.  I thought it came out pretty nice for a first crochet project.

This dress was a bit more complicated, not to mention that it called for crochet thread instead of yarn.  The thread is stiff and a royal pain to work with, but I was happy with the end result.

This dress was supposed to be for Barbie, but the hook I used turned out to be too small.  So Staci wound up with a new party dress.  She says she likes it.

I made another dress out of gold crochet thread, but I didn't have enough to finish it.  So I've put it away until I can get some more.  I'm currently working on a beautiful blue-silver sparkle evening dress that I'll feature in a future post.  I'll be posting another story soon. Stay tuned!  :-)

  2. WOW Cindi! The dress is gorgeous!!!!!
It's quite a lovely hobby, and I'm sure the Moreville residents are more than happy. You did a wonderful job, I tried my hand at crochet many years ago, but I managed to finish a patchwork blanket and didn't go any further. You are able to get regular and small points, and this is the most important thing in crochet (according to my grandmother - she was my guru in all things sewing-knitting-crocheting).
    Kisses

    1. Thanks Billa! A patchwork blanket? Wow! That's kind of ambitious for a beginning crochet project. I'm not sure what you mean by "regular points" and "small points." Are you talking about granny squares? Or the ruffle in Staci's dress? Your grandmother sounds like a wonderful and talented lady. :-)

  4. I am so proud of you for learning to crochet! The dresses are beautiful, I know that thread you used and the micro tiny hook were hard to work with, your patience amazes me!! Can't wait to see what else you can create!! Keep it up, I have a lot of yarn in my stash that is calling your name, LOL

  7. Now that's a way to take on a new hobby! Great starter dress. Love the rich red color and the skirt draping. (Ugh, my sewing and dress vocabulary has dwindled due to inaction in that area.)

Looking forward to seeing the blue-silver evening gown. That sounds stunning.

    Happy crotcheting ;-)

P.S. Maybe that gold dress can be a gold top or tunic? Shrug.

    1. Thanks Dana! I can't wait to see the blue-silver evening dress either! LOL As for the gold one, it's already too long for a top or tunic, so next time I go to Joanne's or Michael's I'll get some more of the thread. Glad you like my first projects! :-)

  9. That is so amazing that you were able to craft that beautiful dress and you just started. Now that is impressive. I love your afghan, too. It's also nice that you and Marianne will be able to share in similar hobbies. Give Bruiser a hug and a kiss for me. I was thinking about him this morning. Hope his operation went well and that he's still very active.

    1. Thanks Vanessa! That means so much coming from you! Yes, I can go shopping for yarn and never leave the house. LOL Bruiser's surgery is Friday, May 16th at 8 am. He'll always be active since he has alot of energy, but we're hoping he'll calm down a little bit. LOL I'll keep you posted on how he's doing. :-)
